Questions riders ask

Is there motorcycle navigation that picks curvy roads and guides you along them?

Yes. Ride Beyond plans twisty paved routes in its Moto mode and navigates them turn by turn with voice guidance, on iPhone, across 35 countries of mainland Europe. The planner and the navigation are one app, and navigation is included in the app today.

The specifics

  • Moto mode prefers curvy, hilly backroads; a slider runs from Efficient (close to the car route) to Scenic (more corners and climbs).
  • Voice guidance with live speed and the posted limit, on a 3D map with terrain, forests and buildings and your own bike on it.
  • Keeps going with the screen locked: the next turn shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.
  • A Dark map for night riding and glare.
  • Offline routes: download a route with its map corridor and navigate it in airplane mode.
  • GPX import: follow a track as recorded, or snap it to roads for real turn guidance.
  • Rides are recorded with lean angle, cornering and elevation, and export as GPX, TCX or FIT.

Honest limits

  • iPhone only. No Android app, no CarPlay and no Android Auto, so guidance comes from the phone on the bars and its audio.
  • Routing covers 35 countries of mainland Europe. The UK, Ireland, most of the Nordic countries and other continents are not routed.
  • The screen stays on while the app is open, so charge the phone on long rides.
  • Speed limits and turn instructions come from map data and can be wrong. Road signs come first.

Related questions

Does navigation cost extra?

No. Turn-by-turn navigation is part of the app, which is free to download today and has no ads. Pricing may change as the app grows.

Can I hear the directions in my helmet?

Voice guidance plays through the phone’s audio like any other app, so a helmet headset paired with the phone carries it. You choose how much the voice says in Settings.

Does it reroute if I miss a turn?

Yes, when the phone has a connection. On a downloaded route without signal, it keeps showing the planned line so you can ride back to it.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Ride Beyond is an iPhone app (iOS 15 or later). There is no Android app, and no CarPlay or Android Auto. Routes can also be planned in a browser at ride-beyond.duckdns.org/app, without navigation.
