The specifics
- One button on a planned route downloads the route, its turn instructions and a band of map around it.
- 3D too: with the 3D map on when you download, the terrain for the corridor comes along.
- Saved, Offline lists every downloaded route with its size on the phone; routes over the same area share one copy of the map.
- Recording works without signal and the ride syncs when you are back online.
Honest limits
- No whole-country or whole-region maps. Only the corridor around a downloaded route is on the phone.
- Without signal the app cannot plan a new route or reroute. If you leave the line, it keeps showing the planned route so you can ride back to it.
- Searching for places, rain radar and friends on the map need a connection.
- Offline downloads are in the iPhone app only; the browser planner cannot download.
Related questions
How much map does a download include?
The route plus a band of map around it, at the zoom levels you need to ride it. Off that corridor the map is blank or coarse.
Can it reroute without signal?
No. Rerouting needs a connection. Offline, the app keeps showing the planned line so you can ride back to it.
Does recording work in the mountains without signal?
Yes. The phone records on its own and uploads the ride when it is back online.
